What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing, improve function and relieve pain. This is done by inserting tiny needles at precise locations along energy meridians in your body. Results are achieved by clearing blocked pathways of energy flow along these meridians. Acupuncture restores the healthy flow of energy (Qi) in the body to bring relief on physical, emotional and spiritual levels.

David Jones Dipl., M.S., LAc. and Lisa Jones, CNE, are experts in helping restore the body’s natural power to self-heal on physical, emotional and spiritual levels. If you are feeling tapped out, then our work is to help you reclaim vitality. If stress, toxins, or infections have overtaken your body’s innate healing capacity, our work is to guide and support your journey to release those disease causing burdens. In our unhurried care you will be seen and heard  and engaged in the project of rebuilding what has been depleted, blocked, or damaged. We go beyond the boundaries of Acupuncture to give you a healing experience that is completely unique. Here are the healing modalities included in every session:

  • Traditional Chinese Acupuncture based on Five Element Theory
  • Energy Healing techniques like Reiki and Reconnection Therapy
  • Soft tissue and ligament manipulation through Zero Point Balancing
  • Cranial Sacral Therapy
  • Cupping
  • Moxabustion
  • Breathing Assessment

After your session you will receive a detailed explanation (by email) of what was observed about you during your diagnosis and treatment. Based on your Intake and first 90 minute session we create a customized protocol for how to eat, move and recover. Our goal is to engage you in a collaboration by teaching you targeted self-care habits that will support your Acupuncture treatments and transform you. Your follow-up information will include:

    • Nutrition and Behavior Coaching
    • Breath Work Techniques
    • Lifestyle Recommendations
    • Movement and Recovery Homework

Cranial Sacral Therapy

A gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and disfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. Soft palpating around the head and spinal cord can aid in treatment of migraines, headaches, chronic neck and back pain, Central Nervous System Disorders, PTSD and learning disabilities, among other conditions.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

When certain conditions of disease exist, it is necessary to augment Acupuncture to aid in rebalancing the body. The tradition of using botanical remedies is centuries old and yet still most commonly used in treatments in Japan. We use Kampo herbs. Kampo is the Japanese evolution of standardized preparations of Traditional Chinese Botanical Remedies. Kampo herbs are premeasured and easy to take home and integrate into your daily routine without the need to measure, boil, steep and strain varieties of botanicals.

Moxabustion

A Traditional Chinese Medicine practice of burning small amounts of dried herb above particular points on the body increases blood flow to specific points on the body to achieve deep, long lasting results. It does not burn but causes a sensation of warmth and heat to the area, aiding in the rebalancing of Qi, or energy that moves throughout the body. This therapy helps to alleviate pain, constipation, respiratory problems, IBS, menstrual cramps, and infertility, and many other ailments.

Cupping

Made popular by recent Olympic and Professional Athletes for its effectiveness in aiding muscle recovery, cupping treats muscle injuries, neck and back pain, anxiety, migraines, rheumatism and even cellulite. Cups made of glass or bamboo are placed on specific areas of the body to create gentle suction. The suction pulls blood flow to the area and this increased blood flow achieves the relief of many imbalances. It is a gentle, non-painful therapy, but will sometimes leave the skin temporarily discolored.

Zero Point Balancing

A powerfully effective body-mind therapy, Zero Point Balancing employs skilled touch on areas of tension in the bones. Key skeletal joints can be addressed with gentle traction to reorganize and relax the joints and soft tissue. The result is better vitality, postural alignment and a wonderful feeling of harmony and well being. Zero Point Balancing works to relieve chronic pain, improve concentration, treat insomnia, treat behavioral disorders such as ADD and mood disorders such as depression.

Reiki and Reconnection Therapy

There is a saying in Chinese Medicine: “Know the body, but operate from the Spirit”. Chinese Medicine demands that methodology must be just the beginning – that a masterful treatment is an exploration and engagement of spirit and energy between practitioner and client. You will experience the disciplines of Reiki and Reconnection Therapy, both energy healing techniques, used in conjunction with Acupuncture for a full expression of Mastery and creativity within the form.

TCM Nutrition

In Chinese Medicine it is understood that food heals on the deepest level. Custom Food Plans are designed for every client after your first session. Choosing food that is energetically and bio-chemically correct for your body can seem challenging but it doesn’t have to be. Lisa can provide a list of food that you should include in your weekly meal planning  (and food to avoid) with recommendations for how to prepare. A follow-up call or face-to-face appointment to help you understand the nutrition recommendations is included as part of your care. If you choose to try the Custom Food Plan, and need on-going coaching it is available.

Breathing Mechanics

80% of humans today have dysfunctional breathing.   Our bodies have forgotten how to breathe the way we are designed  to breathe.   Dysfunctional breathing is a contributing factor in the epidemics of stomach/digestion issues, headache,  anxiety and depression. In the first Acupuncture session you will receive a breathing assessment. In our care you have the opportunity to experience a guided breath work experience so you can feel the difference when you breathe optimally.

The way you breathe as a habit has a tremendous impact on your health.  Using your breath, you can shift the nervous system into the parasympathetic state, allowing your body to heal and recover. It’s our goal to get you to be a habitually great breather. Sometimes it as simple as how you breathe.
